A full-blown feeding is one of the main conditions of a problem-free bird keeping. Usually the principal part of the cage pets such as parrots, pigeons etc. are considered to be granivorous birds. Owing to the name of the species people feed them only with seeds, that is not right. Each time of the year birds differentiate their nourishment due to their purposes when they live in nature. The ration may include animal forage, different greens, fruits and tree barks. That is why the variety of forages will bring your bird robust.

Today you can purchase wild bird seed almost everywhere, even online. As you see you can't feed your bird an entire year with seeds because it won't harmonize with their natural nourishment.

From the first view you can not indicate any disease after feeding your bird with the same forage for years. But with some time diseases will be shown. Ornithologists observe such illnesses as the abnormality of molt, obesity, disorder of the reproductive function etc. All these occasions are conditional on wrong feeding of birds. Also there may be many occasions of infectious illnesses because birds need vitamins and proteins in their food.

Grain blend is the most important element in a bird's ration. Different sorts of crops (wheat, millet, oats, maize and others) and seeds (canary seed, herbage seeds, seeds of lettuce) should be included in this mixture because it is very useful for a bird's prosperity. Also you may attach there different oil-bearing crops such as sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, hemp seeds and various nuts. Overweight can be provoked by oil-yielding seeds so you are to give small portions of them to elude overuse.

Every bird has its own normal daily amount of meal so you are to follow that portions must not exceed the norm. You may see that a canary will have only 1 teaspoon a day and Cockatiel Parakeet's standard is one tablespoonful.

Fresh forage consists of various greeneries, wild herbage, fruits, vegetables, also fresh leaves and branches of trees. Besides, animal forage should be included to a bird's ration. Hen's eggs in a boiled condition, fatless curds or small amount of fatless minced meat can be added in a bird's meal. These forages are given to a bird once a week, in molt period - two times a week and only in the period of nestling - every day. In the bird's cage should be also present a feeder with a piece of chalk or small stones, they are necessary for a good digestion.
